When MI were given a 213-run target to win, David’s sensational three consecutive sixes snatched victory from Rajasthan Royals and the five-time champions won the match by six wickets on Sunday (April 30) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Chasing the target, Rohit Sharma (the birthday boy) flopped again. And so did Ishan Kishan with his slow 23-ball 28. Cameron Green, who has been constantly rescuing MI from a horrible position, again did the same job with his 26-ball 44 but Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him in the 11th over.
But SKY- Suryakumar Yadav- displayed his blazing avatar by racking up a 20-ball 55 (with eight boundaries and two sixes). But before he could further allay RR’s chances to win the match, Sandeep Sharma grabbed an unbelievable catch by running backward and diving- a stunning effort needed to stop Suryakumar.
Tim David and Tilak Varma, the finishers of MI, undertook the task to take MI past the target. At one end, Varma was going for run-a-ball while it was David who singlehandedly, in the last over, wreaked havoc to clinch a thrilling victory over Rajasthan. David slammed three back-to-back sixes off Jason Holder to take MI to 214/4, winning the match by six wickets. The most astounding thing about his knock was his strike rate, for he batted at 321.43, slamming an unbeaten 45 runs from 14 balls with two fours and five maximums.

Earlier in the match, except for the young Yashasvi Jaiswal, all the RR batters simply faltered. Even Jos Buttler, who is considered the backbone of Pink Jersey, could add 18 runs from 19 balls. Despite others’ failure, RR reached 212/7 on the back of Jaiswal’s 62-ball 124 runs, laced with a whopping 16 fours and eight sixes.
Talking about the points table, RR are third on it with five wins from nine matches, while MI are placed seventh with four wins from eight matches. The five-time champions will face neighbors Punjab Kings on Wednesday (May 3), while Pink Jersey’s next clash is against neighbors Gujarat Titans on Friday (May 5).
