India lost the second of the three-match ODI series against West Indies by six wickets on Saturday (July 29) at the Kensington Oval Barbados. Two of the senior players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested for the match, which is why Indian fans got furious with the management and started venting their frustration on Twitter. India head coach Rahul Dravid explained why the management came up with this experiment to rest Kohli and Rohit.
Apart from opener Ishan Kishan, other batters performed poorly due to which India could score 181 in 40.5 overs. Kishan scored 55 runs from 55 balls with six boundaries and a six. His opening partner Shubman Gill was the second high scorer (34 runs from 49 balls).
Sanju Samson came at No.3 position instead of Kohli, but he flopped with the bat. Others also failed to reach even the 30-run mark. West Indies, with the help of Shai Hope‘s 63* off 80 and Kyle Mayers‘ 36 off 28 chased down the target in 36.4 overs to win the match by six wickets. After the match, Dravid explained the reason behind leaving Kohli and Rohit out of the playing XI.
“Honestly, this was our last chance to try some of our players who are injured and are in the NCA. With days to go for the Asia Cup and then the World Cup, we are kind of running out of time in a lot of ways,” Dravid said. He added the management has to give the chance to other players to help them have a bit of experience in the worst-case scenario.

Following Asia Cup, India will lock horns with Australia for three-match ODI series before participating in the all-important ODI World Cup starting October 5.
