Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli was dismissed by the third umpire in a controversial fashion which started a debate on social media. Kohli started well but failed to convert it into a big score when debutant Matthew Kuhnemann trapped him for the lbw on Day 2 of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Saturday (February 17) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The incident happened after lunch in the 50th over when Kuhnemann delivered it in the middle, which Kohli tried to defend, but it looked as if the ball hit the pad and bat almost simultaneously. Umpire’s finger had gone up, but Kohli straightaway went upstairs for the third umpire’s review.

In replays, UltraEdge showed a spike but it was difficult to say whether the ball hit the bat or pad first; the ball was sandwiched between the two. But the third umpire decided to stick with the on-field umpire, and the 35-year-old had to take a long walk back to the dressing room after scoring 44 runs off 84 balls. Kuhnemann was certainly happy to scalp his maiden Test wicket to put his team in the driving seat as India at that time were reduced to 135/6.

As far as the match is concerned, the all-rounders once again saved India from faltering. After Virat Kohli’s wicket, wicketkeeper KS Bharat walked back for six runs. When India were tethering at 139/7, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel handled the reigns well to take the host past 250.
Ashwin, with five boundaries, scored 37 runs off 71 balls before Pat Cummins got rid of him with the help of Matthew Renshaw’s diving catch. India have so far scored 253/8 with Axar Patel playing at 68* and Mohammed Shami, who just came after Ashwin’s departure, hasn’t opened his innings yet.
Australia, in their first innings, scored 263 runs. While chasing, five Indian batsmen (KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, and KS Bharat) became Nathan Lyon’s victims. India are now trailing behind 10 runs.
