India become No.1 in all three formats

After winning the first Test of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, India dethroned Australia to become the No.1 team in ICC’s Test rankings. India was recently crowned as the No. 1 ODI team after they defeated New Zealand 3-0 last month. And as they are already at the top of the T20I rankings, this made India No.1 in all three formats. And at the same time, India became the first Asian team to be the No.1 in the ICC rankings across formats at the same time.

India are on top with 115 rating points and are just four points above Australia (111 points). If Rohit Sharma and co. win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 or 3-0, then they can make it to the final of the World Test Championship and are likely to play against Australia again. For India to stay on top of the Test rankings, they have to win the second Test as well. The second Test will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from February 17.

Jadeja, who is already on top of the list of all-rounders, moved up four spots to 16th among bowlers’ rankings. He had scalped seven wickets in the first Test and scored a crucial 70 runs. He bagged 5/47 in the first innings and finished with the figures of 2/34 in Australia’s second innings. Jadeja was also adjudged as the Player of the Match. He is followed by Ashwin in the all-rounders’ rankings.

At the same time, Ashwin scalped eight wickets in the first Test and moved to second place in the bowlers’ rankings. And now, he is just 21 rating points behind No.1 Pat Cummins. Ashwin took 3/42 in the first and 5/37 in the second innings.

Axar Patel picked up just one wicket, but with the bat, he scored 80 runs. Owing to his knock, he moved to seventh place in the all-rounders’ rankings. Captain Rohit Sharma jumped to the eighth place in the Test batters’ rankings after his knock of 120 on a difficult Nagpur track in the first innings. His knock had helped India reach 400, after which the visitors crumbled for a mere 91 runs in their second innings.

Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, both of whom had poor shows with the bat, are still occupying the top two positions on the batting rankings. The two Aussie openers, Usman Khawaja and David Warner went down to the tenth and 20th spots respectively.
