Punjab Kings (PBKS) have gone berserk this season, for they have been producing scintillating innings and reached the 200-run mark a couple of times. On Wednesday (May 3) when Shikhar Dhawan and Co. faced Mumbai Indians (MI), Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma destroyed the bowlers with their blazing innings to take PBKS to 214/3 at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. For the fourth consecutive time this season, PBKS crossed the 200-run mark, which also exposed their strong batting line-up.

Livingstone and Jitesh smashed 69 runs in the last five overs against a weak MI death-bowling attack. Both of them remained unbeaten and ended up stitching a stand of a whopping 119 runs from just 53 balls.

Livingstone is known for his explosive batting but his bat remained silent in the previous matches. But he did not miss the chance to feast on the inexperienced MI bowling attack this time. He racked up an unbeaten 42-ball 82 with seven boundaries and four maximums at a strike rate of 195.25. Jitesh Sharma failed to reach his half-century by just one run. He hammered 49 runs from 27 balls with five fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 181.48.

Earlier during the first innings, PBKS had a slow start because the openers, Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan scored nine and 30 runs (off 20) respectively. Then Matthew Short could score just 27 from 26 balls. PBKS started accelerating only after the arrival of Livingstone Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma.

In MI’s previous game, they chased down a 200-run total for the first time at the Wankhede Stadium, and something similar they have to do in this match also to win it.
