Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell

Despite two half-centuries from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), other batters were struggling against Rajasthan Royals (RR) bowlers in the last few overs. The hosts then huffed and puffed to 189/9 in their 20 overs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday (April 23).

Stand-in skipper Virat Kohli lost the toss and they were asked to bat first. Kohli’s stay at the crease, however, was short-lived, for he became a victim of LBW off Trent Boult on the first ball of the innings. But Kohli’s golden duck did not add pressure on RCB as Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell played scintillating innings, with both slamming their respective half-centuries.

Du Plessis scored his fifth half-century in this match. In the 14th over, he had to depart off Yashasvi Jaiswal’s runout. His 62-run knock from 39 balls had eight fours and two sixes.

Then in the next over it was time for Glenn Maxwell to head back to the hut. Ravichandran Ashwin was the bowler to get rid of this dangerous Aussie fish. His dismissal also turned the table as RCB could score just 33 more runs. Maxwell was the high-scorer for his team, scoring 77 runs from 44 balls, including six boundaries and four maximums at a strike rate of 175.

After Maxwell and du Plessis’ dismissals, Yuzvendra Chahal‘s dismissal of Mahipal Lomror saw half of RCB’s batting line-up back to the dugout. Then one by one, RCB started losing wickets, and they couldn’t finish the match in style.

Dinesh Karthik had the huge responsibility to add quick runs in the death overs but he flopped. Sandeep Sharma dismissed two batters- Karthik and Vyshak Vikay Kumar off two consecutive balls to restrict the hosts to 189/9 in their 20 overs.
