GT vs LSG

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), despite a powerful start, couldn’t chase down a massive 228 against Gujarat Titans (GT) and lost the match by a huge 56 runs on Sunday (May 7) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Had they gone past the target, it would have been the highest run chase at the venue, for GT created the record of putting on the highest total today in Ahmedabad.

Chasing the monumental target, LSG openers Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock gave a solid start, stitching 88 runs between them but Mohit Sharma in the ninth over dismissed the latter and subsequently left them in tatters. Mayers smashed two sixes and seven boundaries to score 48 runs from 32 balls.

Deepak Hooda was the next batter but he had a short stay at the crease due to Mohammed Shami‘s full toss. LSG expected Marcus Stoinis to go all guns blazing but he became Mohit Sharma’s next victim, in the 15th over.

Despite the quick fall of wickets, de Kock was still at the crease and was expected to anchor the innings well but Rashid Khan’s delivery sent the Proteas to packing in a bizarre manner. The umpire wasn’t sure if the ball touched the stumps or not but replays showed it did. The bails only fell down after keeper KS Bharat grabbed but nevertheless, it was a dismissal, and de Kock had to depart and with him, the hopes to win the match also got shattered.
