Another day, another half-century for Faf du Plessis. This man at the age of 38 has been garnering praise from all corners owing to his unreal consistency in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Du Plessis and veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s astounding innings helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) put on 199/6 against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday (May 9) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After winning the toss, MI skipper Rohit Sharma chose to field first. RCB opener Virat Kohli couldn’t help du Plessis in giving a solid start, for Jason Behrendorff sent him packing in the first over itself for one run. An over later, Behrendorff bagged another wicket, when he dismissed Anuj Rawat for six runs.

Then it was Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell’s show. The Proteas and the Aussie smashed their respective half-centuries to help RCB recover from a flop start and eventually drove the team to a strong position. Maxwell was the first to depart from a knuckle ball from Behrendorff, after scoring 68 runs from 33 balls with eight boundaries and four sixes at a strike rate of 206.06.

Du Plessis became Cameron Green‘s victim with the catch by Vishnu Vinod. The RCB skipper contributed 65 runs from 41 balls with five fours and three sixes. Their innings, plus Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav, and Wanindu Hasaranga‘s finishing touches drove RCB to a massive 199/6 total in their allotted 20 overs.
