He has now become the youngest batter to score 200 in ODIs, the youngest to score a century in all three formats, and the youngest Indian to score a ton for India, just at the age of 23.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill, the name that impressed the cricket fans in the ODI format recently, didn’t quite find his feet in the T20Is; cricket experts and fans claimed. They said Gill will take time to adapt himself to the T20I environment.

There were even talks of dropping him to include in-form Prithvi Shaw as an opener. But now, Gill shut all the criticisms by slamming his maiden half-century. Not just this, he converted it into his maiden century to light up the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (February 1).

The 23-year-old remained not out on 126 runs from 63 balls; the knock was adorned with 12 boundaries and seven maximums at a monstrous strike rate of 200. Gill is certainly unstoppable, in every format. Be it Test, ODIs, and now in T20Is, this raw talent has a habit of shutting the non-strop critics, making his willow do the talking. Now he has the highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is. He has now become the youngest batter to score 200 in ODIs, the youngest to score a century in all three formats, and the youngest Indian to score a ton for India, just at the age of 23.

Gill’s knock drove India to a massive 234/4 in their allotted 20 overs. This is also the highest-ever total against New Zealand. Other than him, Rahul Tripathi was also all guns blazing, as he quickly steered India to a strong total within the powerplay after Kishan’s wicket, with his quickfire of 44 from 22 balls. Even he played at a strike rate of 200.

Suryakumar Yadav did his job quickly, scoring 24 runs from 13 balls, but Blair Tickner trapped him. Later, Hardik Pandya smashed four boundaries and a six to score 30 from 17 balls at a strike rate of 176.47.

New Zealand now need a miracle to save themselves from defeat. This is a series decider. The Men in Blue have also swept the Kiwis 3-0 in the ODI format, courtesy of, again, Shubman Gill’s amassing 360 runs, which had the score of a double century, an unbeaten 40-run knock, and a century.
