“India reign in Adelaide”- Twitter goes bonker as rain turn the table entirely in India’s favor against Bangladesh in a thriller
India beat Bangladesh by 5 runs
India must be thanking the rain which marred their match against Bangladesh for a while, as Bangladeshi opener Litton Das was causing havoc with his fearless cricket. However, the game continued to be a thriller till the last ball as India secured their spot on top of the points table by thrashing Bangladesh by five runs on Wednesday [November 2] at the Adelaide Oval.
India were anxious to get back on the field because Bangladesh were 17 runs ahead in terms of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method. Litton would have become the main culprit behind India’s defeat when heaven opened to delay the match for a while. The runs were reduced to 151 owing to DLS, in 16 overs.
Fortunately, the rain did not play the spoilsport but only helped the Men in Blue in scalping quick wickets. It happened first in Ravichandran Ashwin‘s over when KL Rahul’s rocket throw shattered the stumps, showing Litton the way back to the pavilion.
The timing of Rahul’s wicket will be remembered for a long time, as Litton’s wicket sparked a collapse. When Bangladesh started their innings, Litton had already scored his half-century before the powerplay. He departed after a quickfire of 60 runs off 27 balls with seven boundaries and three sixes at a high strike rate of 222.22.
However, India also needed to dismiss Najmul Shanto’s wicket, who started attacking following Litton’s departure. Mohammed Shami came into the attack to give the second breakthrough. His length ball made Shanto slap it flat over the long-on, but Suryakumar Yadav was beneath the ball and did not leave it; Shanto played 25 balls to score 21 runs with a four and a six.
India knew the value of Shakib Al Hasan‘s wicket when the Bangladeshi skipper became a victim of Arshdeep Singh in the 12th over. Shakib was his second wicket in the same over, as Arshdeep also sent Afif Hossain on the first ball. It was a full one which Shakib tried to pull but only whipped it toward deep mid-wicket to the hands of substitute fielder Deepak Hooda.
Hardik Pandya got rid of two wickets in the 13th over. They were Yasir Ali and Mosaddek Hossain, who only added one and six runs, respectively.
Nurul Hasan attacked Arshdeep when 20 runs were needed off the last over. But finally, Nurul couldn’t smash a six off the last ball to level the series, and India won the match by five wickets to reach at the top of the points table in Group 2.
