Sri Lanka thrashed India by six wickets to almost end Men in Blue’s stint in Asia Cup 2022 on Tuesday, September 6 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in UAE.

India’s chance to stay in the Asia Cup 2022 tournament is still there if Afghanistan beats Pakistan and India beats Afghanistan by a big margin. Otherwise, the five-time champions will be out of the tournament.

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka had won the toss and opted to bowl first. India skipper Rohit Sharma‘s 72 runs off 41 balls helped India post 173/8 in 20 overs. Sri Lanka responded strongly from the very start.

Openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis‘ half-century stand gave the start the Lankans needed. While Nissanka scored a 32-ball 52 (with four fours and two sixes), Kusal Mendis scored 57 runs off 37 balls including four fours and three sixes. Yuzvendra Chahal then gave huge breakthrough by dismissing these two batters.

But when Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dasun Shanaka walked onto the crease, there was no stopping. They played carefully while also smashing huge hits. Both the batters played till the end and ensured Sri Lanka a six wickets win with one ball left. Rajapaksa played 25* runs off 17 balls while Shanaka scored 33* runs soff 18 balls. The drama in the last two balls saw misfield and confusion but Sri Lanka completed their two runs anyways.
