In the 30th Big Bash League (BBL) match between Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers, the latter pulled off the highest run chase in the history of the league. They completed the 230-run target (with three balls left) on Thursday (December 5) at the Adelaide Oval. The man behind the successful run-chase was opener Matt Short.

Short opened the innings and went on to slam an unbeaten ton off just 59 balls, including eight boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 169.49. He was supported by Chris Lynn who played a half-century knock, scoring 64 runs in just 29 balls, which was studded with six fours and four maximums at a strike rate of 220.69.

After his dismissal, Adam Hose took the reign and unleashed another attack with his 22-ball 38 runs (with four and four sixes) at a strike rate of 172.73. The Strikers then won the match by seven wickets in a last-over thriller. In the last over, Faheem Ashraf failed to defend 11 runs as Matt Short completed his maiden BBL ton from two back-to-back boundaries. Hurricans’ Patrick Dooley scalped two wickets, while Tim David picked up one wicket.

Earlier, Hobart Hurricanes were asked to bat first and they got off to a flying start when Ben McDermott and Caleb Jewell stitched an 88-run stand for the first wicket. Jewell was dismissed by Colin de Grandhomme after he scored 54 runs off 25 balls, smashing seven fours and three sixes at an enormous strike rate of 216. While McDermott played a 30-ball 57-run knock with three fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 190.

Later, Zach Crawley added 54 runs from 28 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes. While Tim David finished the innings with his unbeaten 39 off 20 to take the team’s total to 229/4.
