New Zealand’s Fin Allen smashed his maiden ton in the T20I match against Scotland on Wednesday, July 27 at the Grange Cricket Club Ground in Edinburgh. This was also his maiden appearance in T20Is.

Previously, he scored his maiden ODI half-century against Ireland after making debut in the previous match. Allen’s century helped New Zealand set up a massive score of 226. Allen in near future can replace ageing Colin Munro and Martin Guptill.

The 23-year-old played just 56 balls to score 100 with the help of eight boundaries and six sixes at an impressive strike rate of 180.36. Opening for the Kiwis, he and Guptill added 85 runs for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed on 40 runs. Jimmy Neesham scored 30 runs off just nine balls while Daryl Mitchell‘s 23* took New Zealand to a huge score.

In domestic cricket leagues, Allen scored 1777 runs at a brilliant strike rate of 175.07. In IPL 2022, Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him for INR 80 lakh but he did not make any appearance.

Notably, Allen is also the fifth New Zealand batter to smash an international T20I ton. Before him are Brendon McCullum, Colin Munro, Martin Guptill, and Glenn Phillips.

Talking about the match, New Zealand batted first and set 226 for Scotland. The 15th ranked team, Scotland, did started well and played from the beginning to chase the huge target.

Openers Calum MacLeon and George Munsey stitched a 62-run partnership for the first wicket before in-form spinner Ish Sodhi dismissed Munsey on 28 runs. Ollie Hairs became Sodhi’s next victim. Sodhi also took a career-best 4-28 from his four overs while Mitchell Santner scalped 2-23 as the host were reduced to 157-8 in their 20 overs.
