A couple of days ago, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) added Bumrah to the ODI squad against Sri Lanka.

India’s star speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka due to fitness concerns. The three-match ODI series is scheduled to take place from Tuesday (January 10). Bumrah hasn’t played an international match since a T20I match against Australia last year due to back stress fracture. The injury even ruled him out from marquee tournaments like the Asia Cup and the ICC T20 World Cup.

A couple of days ago, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) added Bumrah to the ODI squad of the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. The release stated: “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has included pacer Jasprit Bumrah in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming Mastercard 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Bumrah was out of cricketing action since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a back stress fracture injury. The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and was declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon.” However, the BCCI is yet to release an official statement on whether Bumrah has been ruled out of the entire series.

Many have previously opined that India’s failure in the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup was due to Bumrah’s absence. Some had slammed BCCI for rushing Bumrah to play international matches.

Maybe, that is why the board is not yet ready to take a risk, considering the bigger events ahead- the possible World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup in India this year.

Bumrah has previously played all the matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year. Fans on Twitter- though they are unhappy with the reports- are trolling Bumrah for missing India’s matches due to injury but playing in the cash-rich league.
