Former England skipper Joe Root went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction on Friday (December 23) in Kochi. He registered at a base price of Rs 1 crore. He can be called back to the auction at the request of the franchises.
The 32-year-old recently relinquished captaincy and signed up to debut in the Indian league. He even went unsold in IPL 2018 auction, and since then, he hasn’t registered for any T20 leagues.
Root mostly plays Test matches and doesn’t feature in the T20Is now. His last appearance in the shortest format for the Three Lions was in May 2019 in a home series against Pakistan. He wasn’t in the T20 World Cup-winning English squad in 2022 either.
This year, he played 21 international matches- six ODIs and 15 Tests. He got out for two ducks and scored 11 runs in ODIs against India this year. He scored a total of 87 runs in three ODIs against South Africa this year.
