After losing three matches on the trot, the Netherlands finally clinched two points in the Super 12s when they defeated Zimbabwe by five wickets (with 12 balls to spare) on Wednesday, November 2, at the Adelaide Oval. Max O’Dowd shined with his half-century to chase down the 118-run target.

During the Netherlands’ innings, Stephan Myburg became the victim of Blessing Muzarabani in the fourth over. The Dutch did not lose the second wicket till the 13th over.

In the 13th over, Luke Jongwe was successful in breaking the partnership between Tom Cooper and O’Dowd. Jongwe banged it short, which Cooper pushed toward the deep square leg. Wesley Madhevere ran to his right and grabbed the catch. Cooper had scored 32 runs off 29 balls with two fours and a six.

In the next over, Richard Ngarava dismissed Colin Ackermann for one run. They were 29 runs away from the win, but they started losing their wickets. Ackermann looked to clear the infield on the off-side, but as he cut the ball toward the mid-off, Jongwe pouched an easy catch.

On the first ball of the 16th over, Netherlands’ top-scorer O’Dowd’s knock ended. It happened when Muzarabani bowled it slightly shorter, and O’Dowd shuffled across and whacked it but didn’t connect well. The ball traveled toward the deep point where Milton Shumba came underneath and grabbed it. O’Dowd departed after 52 runs off 47 balls, with eight fours and a six at a strike rate of 110.64.

In the next over, skipper Scott Edwards gave away his wicket to Richard Ngarava when he looked to pull it for a big shot to finish in style but edged it, and keeper Regis Chakabva stumped him. Nevertheless, Netherlands needed just two runs, which they scored.

In the 18th over, Bas de Leede ended his team’s innings in style with a four off Sean Williams’ last ball. And finally, the Dutch settled a win in the Super 12s following three back-to-back defeats.

Earlier, Paul van Meekeren scalped three wickets to restrict the Chevrons to just 117. Sikandar Raza scored the most for his team with his 24-ball 40 runs. Sean Williams contributed 28 runs; however, apart from these two, other batters could score just in single digits.
