“Divided by gender, united by sh**ty bowling”- Twitter fans mock RCB bowlers after Meg Lanning, Shafali Verma destroy them with scintillating knocks
Now it will be up to Smriti Mandhana and co. how they can chase this massive target. Even they are not without elite names in their playing XI.
RCB vs DC
The Delhi Capitals and the Royal Challengers Bangalore are playing their first match in the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) on Sunday (March 5) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Courtesy of captain Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, DC posted a mammoth total of 223/2 in their allotted 20 overs.
Openers Lanning and Verma got DC off to a solid start after they were asked to bat first. RCB bowlers had nothing in their plan to stop the two and in a nick of time, both took the score past 150 without giving up their wickets.
It was more like an internal contest between the two star openers on who will score the more runs. Lanning reached 72 off 43 balls with 14 boundaries at a strike rate of 167.44, while Verma batted at a strike rate of 186.67 to score 84 runs from 45 balls, including 10 fours and four maximums.
Heather Knight finally got rid of the two in the 15th over. First, she dismissed Lanning when the latter failed to flick the ball and as a result, it smashed onto the stumps. One ball later, Shafali edged the ball to Richa Ghosh.
But it was too late for RCB because DC’s next two stars, Marizanne Kapp and Jemimah Rodrigues continue with the attack to take the score past 200. Kapp feasted on the bowlers from the word go. In just 17 balls, she added 39 runs with three fours and the same number of sixes, while Rodrigues added 22 off 15 balls.
