Delhi Capitals once again found themselves in a superior spot when they batted against UP Warriorz on Tuesday (March 7) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The reason behind their putting on a huge total of 211/4 is Meg Lanning, the captain, and her compatriot Jess Jonassen.

It’s Lanning’s s second game, and she slammed three back-to-back half-centuries. This time, she smashed three sixes and 10 boundaries to score 70 runs off 42 balls at an impressive strike rate of 166.67, before Rajeshwari Gayakwad bowled her out in the 12th over. Gayakwad delivered on the middle and Lanning hit it through the off side but missed it.

Before Lanning, DC had a powerful start, with the skipper and Shafali Verma stitching a 67-run stand, but Tahlia McGrath broke it in the seventh over by dissing the latter. Marizanne Kapp scored 16 off 12, while Alice Capsey tried to play a cameo, scoring 21 off 10 balls with two sixes and a four.

Later Jess Jonassen took the total past 200. Her 42 runs of 20 balls included three fours and the same number of sixes and she batted at a massive strike rate of 210. The Capitals then went on to score a commanding 211/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Among the Warriorz bowlers, Shabnim Ismail, Sophie Ecclestone, Tahlia McGrath, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad scalped one wicket each.
