“Shanto is a new Babar- Twitter reacts as Najmul Shanto’s maiden half-century helps Bangladesh post a respectable target against Zimbabwe

Bangladesh’s Najmul Shanto’s brilliant knock of 71 guided the team to post a respectable total of 150/7 against Zimbabwe on Sunday [October 30] at The Gabba in Brisbane. Apart from him, Zimbabwean bowlers restricted other batters from scoring big runs.
Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first. Openers Shanto and Soumya Sarkar walked out to bat, but their latter didn’t stay at the crease for long when Blessing Muzarabani dismissed him on duck in the second over. Muzarabani then scalped Litton Das’s wicket in the sixth over, and the latter departed following 12-ball 14 runs (with three fours).
The next batter didn’t depart till the 13th over. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan was the batter who scored 23 runs off 20 balls with a four, but Sean Williams trapped him when he bowled a slower one that landed on the off-stump. Shakib attempted to play the slog sweep but top-edged it, and Muzarabani, from the short fine leg, ran and grabbed an easy catch.
But it was Shanto who played a 71-run knock from 55 balls, studded with seven fours and a six at a strike rate of 129.09 before Sikandar Raza got rid of him in the 17th overs. Raza tossed it up on, and Shanto tried to smash it for a six but top-edged it, and the fielder at the cover, Craig Ervine, made no mistake and caught the ball.
After Shanto’s departure, Bangladesh’s state wasn’t terrible because they still had batters and overs left. The score looked 122/4. Afif Hossain kept playing to guide his team to a respectable 150/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Regis Ngarava and Muzarabani scalped two wickets each, while Raza and Williams could take one wicket each. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have won one match and lost one in the Super 12 stage.
