With the help of Pathum Nissanka’s half-century knock, Sri Lanka chased down an easy target of 122 against Pakistan on Friday, September 9 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Wandindu Hasaranga‘s bowling helped Sri Lanka bowl out Pakistan on 121. Only  Babar Azam could score 30 runs.

Sri Lanka’s response too came with quick wickets. Muhammad Hasnain dismissed opener Kusal Mendis on golden duck. Danushka Gunathilaka also walked back after a duck. He was dismissed by Haris Rauf.

Dhananjaya de Silva could score only nine runs off 12 balls with a four before Rauf trapped him. Bhanuka Rajapaksa was able to score 24 runs off 19 balls with two sixes before Usman Qadir trapped him.

In the 12th over, Qadir bowled a flighted and full ball on the middle and Rajapaksa went down and tried to slog it away. But he couldn’t get the required timing and hit it straight up in the air and towards deep mid-wicket. Rauf there ran towards the ball and took a good catch.

Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka was able to score 21 runs off 16 balls with a four and two sixes and became a victim of Hasnain. In the 17th over, Hasnain bowled it fuller and slower and Shanaka tried to go big but mistimed it completely and there had been a collision in the deep between Hasan Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed but the former pouched the ball safely and Shanaka had to depart.

Pathum Nissanka played an unbeaten knock of 55 runs off 48 balls with five fours and a six at strike rate of 114.58. Wanindu Hasaranga scored a quick 10 runs off three balls with two fours to help Sri Lanka win the match by five wickets.

Now the two teams will face each other in the Asia Cup 2022 final which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 11 at the same venue.
