With the help of captain Rohit Sharma’s 72-run knock, India scored read a competitive 173/8 in their allotted 20 overs on Tuesday, September 6 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in UAE.

Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss and opted to bowl first. Opener KL Rahul‘s innings was short lived when Maheesh Theekshana trapped him in the second over of their innings.

Virat Kohli entered but he got dismissed on duck off four balls in the third over. Dishan Madhushanka was the bowler to do so with a fuller ball that swung and shattered Kohli’s stumps.

But Rohit played a much needed knock of 72 runs off 41 balls by smashing five fours and four sixes at an impressive strike rate of 175.61 to add stability to India’s innings. His stand with Suryakumar Yadav balanced their innings. Suryakumar scored 34 runs off 29 balls with a four and a six.

But in the 15th over skipper Shanaka bowled a shorter and slower ball around off and Suryakumar looked to ramp it over short third man. However, there was no pace to do that and he ended up just hitting it aerially towards short third man and Theekshana completed an easy catch.

Rohit was dismissed before Suryakumar. In the 13th over, Chamika Karunaratne bowled a short and slower one wide outside off and Rohit threw his bat at it. The ball went aerially towards deep cover and straight into the hands of Pathun Nissanka there and Sri Lanka got rid of the dangerous Rohit Sharma.

Hardik Pandya played short knock of 17 runs off 13 balls while Rishabh Pant also scored 17 runs off 13 balls with three fours. Both got out in the consecutive overs. The former got out from Shanaka’s ball while Pant was dismissed by Madushanka.

Ravichandran Ashwin then smashed a six to add a quick 15 runs off seven balls. At the end, India ended up scoring 173/8. Madhushanka scalped three wickets while Karunaratne and Shanaka picked up two wickets respectively. Theekshana scalped one wicket.
