Sikandar Raza was the star batter for Zimbabwe as he scored 82 runs to help his team put on 174/7 in 20 overs against Ireland on Monday, October 17 at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart.
Ireland won the toss and opted to bowl first. Zimbabwe didn’t have a good start when openers Regis Chakabva departed on duck, while Craig Ervine scored nine runs off 12 balls.
Wesley Madhevere scored 22 runs off 19 balls but got dismissed off Joshua Liitle’s over in the fifth over. Sean Williams scored 12 runs off 11 balls but Simi Singh dismissed him in the 10th over. Milton Shumba played a 16-run knock off 14 balls.
But it was Raza who guided his team to a challenging total with his knock of 82 runs off 48 balls (with five fours and five sixes) at an impressive strike rate of 170.83. But in the in last ball of the 20th over, Mark Adair bowled a full one around the middle and Raza cleared his front leg and tried to smash it away on the leg but missed it and the ball hit the stumos.
After Raza’s wicket, Zimbabwe put on 174/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Joshua Little picked up three wickets and conceded 24 runs in his four overs, while Adair and Delany scalped two wickets each.
