Yuzvendra Chahal
In the second ODI between India and England, the latter set a target of 247. With the help of spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, India were able to bowl out England. Chahal picked up four wickets.
India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. England started their innings with openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow. But the former had to walk back soon after Hardik Panyda’s short ball which top-edged and Suryakumar Yadav at the deep square leg caught it safely.
The next batsman who departed after Roy was Bairstow who couldn’t play Chahal’s ball. Bairstow went down on one knee and tried to slog sweep it but he missed it and the ball hit his stumps. Bairstow had scored a quick 38 runs off 38 balls with six fours.
Joe Root got out soom after scoring 11 runs and it was Chahal again to dismiss him. The same bowler later dismissed Ben Stokes with a LBW. Stokes had gone for a reverse-sweep when Chahal bowled a full ball around the off. The huge appeal was made and the umpire raised his finger. Stokes took the review and ultraedge and ball tracking showed no spike involved and ball tracking showed three dots and Stokes had to walk back. England captain Jos Buttler got dismissed cheaply for four runs by Mohammed Shami.
But Liam Livingstone had played a quick 33 runs off 33 balls with two boundaries and two sixes before Pandya’s short ball made the dangerous batter going for a pull shot but it didn’t get a hold of it and Shreyas Iyer at the deep square leg grabbed it.
But Moeen Ali and David Wiley revived England’s innings. Chahal had bowled a full ball around middle and Moeen got downn on his knee and sweeps it towards deep square leg. Ravindra Jadeja was stationed there who caught it easily. It was also Chahal’s fourth wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal became the first Indian bowler and the first since late Shane Warne in 1999 World Cup final to take more than three wickets in ODIs at Lord’s.
Wiley played a knock of 41 runs off 49 balls with two boundaries and two sixes. This time, first ODI’s hero Jasprit Bumrah picked his first wicket in the form of Wiley when the latter got done by Bumrah’s lack of pace and Iyer ended up catching it. At the end, England scored 246 runs by losing all wickets.
