KKR vs PBKS
Punjab Kings (PBKS) reached a commanding total of 179/7 in their 20 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) courtesy of Shikhar Dhawan’s half-century and the onslaught by Shahrukh Khan and Harpreet Brar in the final two overs on Monday (May 8) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
After winning the toss, PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan chose to bat first but he and the other opener, Prabhsimran Singh, did try to give a bright start to the innings but Harshit Rana did not let Prabhsimran stay longer at the crease, for he dismissed the batter in the second over.
Rana then sent Bhanuka Rajapaksa into packing in his next over for a duck, while Varun Chakravarthy took care of the dangerous Liam Livingstone in the sixth over. Livingstone smashed three fours but he could score just 15 runs from nine balls. A few overs later, Jitesh Sharma followed Livingstone to the dugout.
However, despite the regular fall of wickets, Shikhar Dhawan stayed glued to the crease and completed his slow half-century. He racked up a 47-ball 57 runs, including nine boundaries and a six at a small strike rate of 121.28, before he was dismissed by KKR skipper Nitish Rana with a catch by Vaibhav Arora in the 15th over. After Dhawan’s wicket, PBKS’s score read 119/5 but the two batters’, Shahrukh Khan and Harpreet Brar, cameo steered the team to 179/7 in their 20 overs.
