Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill never fails to amaze in ODIs. After scoring a century against Sri Lanka in the third ODI, he repeated the same against New Zealand in the first ODI on Friday (January 18) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He completed his ton off 87 balls.

After India decided to bat first after winning the toss, Gill opened India’s innings alongside Rohit Sharma and took his time to settle. The duo stitched a 60-run stand between them before Blair Tickner made Rohit his victim, who departed after a 34-ball 38 -run knock (including four boundaries and two sixes). After Rohit walked back to the pavilion, Gill shifted his gears and opened his arms for big shots.

The 23-year-old even completed his 1000 runs in ODIs when he reached 109 from 92 balls. With this, he became the fastest Indian cricketer to do so in just 19 innings, surpassing the record of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan who took 24 innings to reach the four-digit mark. Gill is now only behind Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman, who scored those runs in 18 innings. Now he has five half-centuries and three centuries in his last 16 ODIs.
