Virat Kohli’s century draught finally ended when he smashed maiden ton in T20 against Afghanistan on Thursday, September 8 at the Dubai International Stadium. This was also his 71st century which came nearly after two years.
Afghanistan had won the toss and opted to bowl first. Both Afghanistan and India are out of Asia Cup after their previous two losses.
Regular skipper Rohit Sharma wasn’t playing the match so KL Rahul captained the Men in Blue. Rahul and Kohli opened the innings and stitched a 119-run partnership amonst them.
But in the thirteenth over, Fareed Ahmed bowled a length ball around off which was also a cross-seam delivery. Rahul cleared his front leg and looked to smack it over long on but mistimed it and Naibullah Zadran grabbed a simple catch. Rahul departed after scoring 62 runs off 41 balls with six fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 151.22.
Next batter to walk back to the pavillion was Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav tried to play a length ball that nipped in from around the wicket. Yadav tried to play it towards the third man but the angle made it hard and an inside edge saw the ball hitting the stumps.
Talking about India’s hero today, Virat Kohli, he played 61 balls scoring an unbeaten 122 runs with 12 fours and six sixes at an impressive strike rate of 200. With this knock, two years century draught finally ended plus it was also his maiden T20 ton in international cricket.
Rishabh Pant played an unbeaten knock of 20 runs off 16 balls with three fours at a strike rate of 125.
