Though the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 12 runs, their bowlers didn’t have a great time. Except for Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santer‘s tight bowling, CSK’s bowling simply fell flat at their home ground in Chepauk on Monday (April 3).

After CSK posted a mammoth target of 218, but despite the target, LSG were in the game most of the time. At first, no CSK bowlers had any answer in front of Kyle Mayers who is in red-hot form these days.

After a scintillating knocks against Delhi Capitals in LSG’s campaign opener, the West Indies star had displayed his power in this match also. He scored 53 runs from just 22 balls, laced with eight hours and two maximums at a superior strike rate of 240.91.

But to the relief of CSK, Moeen Ali drew the first blood by sending this big fish back to the pavilion. But by the time Mayers was dismissed, LSG’s score read 79 in just 5.3 overs. Moeen then grabbed the wickets of Krunal Pandya, skipper KL Rahul, and Marcus Stoinis and conceded 26 runs in his full quota of four overs to bring CSK back to the game for a while. He also received the Player of the Match award after the match.

Though Moeen had scalped four wickets, Nicholas Pooran was in the mood to snatch the victory from the Yellow jersey. He batted at a brilliant strike of 177.78, scoring 32 runs from 18 balls, including two fours and three sixes, before Ben Stokes’ brilliant catch sent Pooran into packing.

Krishnappa Gowtham and Ayush Badoni also played brilliantly in the last few overs. Both of them remained unbeaten and had they gone for big shots, they would have become successful in upsetting CSK. But in the end, LSG fell short of 12 runs and lost this match.
