In the Group B match of the Ranji Trophy 2022-2023 season, Delhi registered a historic victory over powerhouse Mumbai for the first time in 42 years at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday (January 20). Divij Mehra was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi, who scalped five wickets to shatter Mumbai’s wickets.
Delhi skipper Himmat Singh won the toss and decided to bowl first. In the first innings, except for Sarfaraz Khan, other batters couldn’t even cross the 50-run mark. Sarfaraz smashed 16 fours and four sixes to score 125 from 155 balls before he was sent back by Yogesh Sharma.

Prithvi Shaw opened the innings and added 40 runs, while Shams Mulani later scored 39 runs to take their team’s total to just 293/10. Pranshu Vijayran scalped four wickets.
During Delhi’s innings, Vaibhav Rawal scored 114 off 195 balls, while skipper Himmat Singh added 85 runs before him, Hrithik Shokeen also played a 45-run knock. They completed the target and were leading by 76 runs.
In the second innings, all Mumbai could score was 170, with contributions from Ajinkya Rahane (51), Tanush Kotian (50*), and Shams Mulani (30). They gave a 95-run target to the host. Divij Mehra was the reason behind the horrible situation of Mumbai as he dismissed the top three batters (Prithvi Shaw, Musheer Khan, Armaan Jaffer, Sarfaraz Khan), and later picked up the wicket of Mohit Avasthi.
Delhi didn’t break a sweat and completed the target to win the match by eight wickets. Both Vaibhav Sharma and Hrithik Shokeen scored 36 runs each. Vaibhav won the Player of the Match award. After the loss, Mumbai slipped to third place in the points table.
