India youngster Prithvi Shaw has been sidelined for quite a long time. He hasn’t played for Team India since July 2021. His maiden and only T20I came against Sri Lanka where he had to depart for a golden duck.

But he earned a call ahead of the three-match T20I series against New Zealand after a series of a brilliant performances in the domestic circuit. The Mumbaikar recently slammed 379 runs against Assam in the Ranji Trophy, which is also the second-highest score in the history of the tournament.

And as the 23-year-old was sidelined for a long time, his inclusion in the squad made fans believe that he will finally get a chance to make a comeback. However, the management did not change their decision of playing the opening duo of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan for the third T20I as well.

As the senior players, the likes of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, are given rest ahead of the Gavaskar-Border Trophy, the youngsters got the chance to play. But unfortunately, Shaw still has to wait until India’s next white-ball game. His name is also not there in the 17-member squad for the first two Test series against Australia.

Shubman Gill‘s maiden century (126* off 63 balls), Rahul Tripathi’s quickfire (44 off 22 balls), and Hardik Pandya’s 30 off 17 helped India put on a mammoth total of 234/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

At the time of writing this article, New Zealand’s situation is below par. Half of their batters have headed back to the dressing room for a mere 53 runs in 8.2 overs.
