Former India cricketer S. Sreesanth took a dig at New Zealand commentator Simon Doull for his comment that India did not play fearless cricket in the semi-final which cost them the cup in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Sreesanth said New Zealand were lucky to win the semi-final against India.
In the 2019 ODI World Cup, India faced Kane Williamson and his men in the semi-final. India had the chance to make it to another final had not MS Dhoni become a victim of a run-out, as per Sreesanth. New Zealand posted 239/8 in their 50 overs.
“New Zealand is coming to India. They will get to know if India plays attacking cricket or not. We will thrash them. They got lucky in 2019 with MS Dhoni getting run out due to a direct hit. What did you do after playing the final?” Sreesanth told Sportskeeda.
Wickets started falling quickly when Indians started to bat until Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja started shouldering the responsibility to take India past the target. However, in the penultimate over, Martin Guptill’s rocket throw hit the bullseye before Dhoni could cross the crease. Later, India lost the match by 18 runs.

This was the Kiwis’ second defeat on the trot in the ODI World Cup final. In the 2015 tournament, they were hammered by Australia by seven wickets in the final.
