Modern-day cricket is completely different from how the game was played initially. The technology has advanced, the shots have changed, Test cricket is now called old-school cricket, and T20 cricket is ruling the world. While the Indian fans are still hung over the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a new season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is already underway.

The new season of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association-run T20 league kicked off on 12 June and will run till the 12th of July. The eight teams will be fighting for the coveted title. Meanwhile, Salem Spartans’ Abhishek Tanwar scripted an unwanted history during his team’s game against Chepauk Super Gillies.

Tanwar bowled the most expensive final delivery in TNPL history as well as cricket history as the pacer went on to concede as many as 18 runs off the last ball of Gillies’ innings. The right-arm pacer first cleaned up Sanjay Yadav with a ripper. However, as it turned out, it was a no-ball as Tanwar had overstepped. Yadav capitalized on the free-hit ball, hitting a six. The umpire signalled another no-ball.

While it seemed Tanwar has bowled a legal delivery on the third attempt, the Spartans’ pacer had overstepped, again. On the next ball, Abhishek bowled a wide ball. Eventually, the pacer bowled a slower delivery which was dispatched for a six. Abhishek Tanwar ended up conceding 18 runs off the last ball.

After posting a massive 217/5, thanks to Abhishek Tanwar, Gillies restricted the opposition to 165/9. Baba Aparajith, Rocky B, and Viju Arul starred for the Gilles with the ball, claiming two wickets apiece.

Earlier, Pradosh Ranjan (88 off 55), and N Jagadeesan (35 off 27) provided Gillies with a solid start, stitching a 91-run partnership in just 54 balls. After Jagadeesan departed, Baba Aparajith played a quick cameo (29 off 19). In the end, Sanjay Yadav with his 31* off 12 provided the finishing touches.
