The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday (2 August) announced the penalties for both England and Australia for maintaining a slow over-rate during the Ashes series. While hosts England were docked a massive 19 WTC points from their credit, Australia lost ten points for not maintaining the ove rate in the fourth Ashes Test which was marred by rain and this decision clearly did not sit well with Usman Khawaja.

“Australia have been docked 10 WTC points from the recently-concluded Ashes series for a slow over-rate in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, while England lost 19 points combined for falling behind in four of the five Tests,” announced ICC

These penalties from the ICC meant Australia gained only eighteen points while England gained nine points from this Ashes series and hence Khawaja was left furious about these new rules implemented by the ICC. The Aussie batter took a jibe at the global governing body.

“Don’t even get the chance to bowl in the second innings at Manchester due to 2 days of rain and @ICC still issue fines and take 10 WTC points of us for slow over rates! That makes a lot of sense…” tweeted Khawaja.

Notably, ICC recently announced a change in over-rate penalty rules which say that a team will docked one WTC point for every over short and its players will have to pay 5% of their match fee for each over short.
