At first Royal Challengers Bangalore was owned by liquid baron Vijay Mallya. He was instrumental in purchasing the ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle and Gayle has been one of the phenonenal batsmen while playing for the RCB franchise. The destcructive batter has a record of scoring six centuries in the history of IPL. Mallya posted a picture on his Twitter handle where he could be seen beside his friend Gayle.

He captioned the post with: “Great to catch up with my good friend Christopher Henry Gayle @henrygayle, the Universe Boss. Super friendship since I recruited him for RCB. Best acquisition of a player ever,” Mallya wrote. See the post below:

Mallya was the chairman of the now closed Kingfisher Airlines was ordered to be extradited by the British judiciary in 2019. He is yet to be sent to India. He is being accused with face fraud and money laundering and remains in bail in the UK until the completion of the “confidential” legal process.

Chris Gayle’s performance in IPL

Chris Gayle had joined the RCB in 2011 and played for the same franchise till 2017. His dominating performance came during his stay at the RCB and smashed 3420 runs in 91 games at a strike rate of 154.40 and an average of 43.29. He has 21 fifties and five centuries and smashed a sensational 175* all while playing for RCB. 175* is also the highest individual score in the 15-year history of IPL, which he scored against the now defucnt Pune Warriers. He had smashed 13 fours and 17 super sixes. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame this year together with former RCB teammate and former South African captain AB de Villiers.

But he droppled out of IPL 2022 stating that he hadn’t been treated fairly in prior years. He participated in 10 games for the Punjab Kings in IPL 2021. He is expected to return in IPL 2023 as he had confirmed it by sharing a picture of him working out and expressed his desire to play for either RCB or PBKS and help the teams win the elusive IPL trophy.
