Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli was struggling to score even a half-century last year but after he broke the 71st-century jinx, he is playing like his old self. A testimony of the same is Kohli’s batting numbers in IPL 2023. The RCB stalwart has scored 639 runs at an average of 53.25 in 14 matches played so far. He has managed to score six half-centuries and two centuries, the latest of which came against Gujarat Titans (GT) in a must-win game. 

As RCB were asked to bat first, Kohli came to open the innings with Faf du Plessis. The two batters played cautiously in the first over. However, Plessis cashed in on some ordinary bowling from Mohammed Shami and the field restrictions as the RCB skipper hit four boundaries in the third over. RCB’s innings took off from there.

Kohli too joined the party, hitting a hat-trick of boundaries against Yash Dayal. The pair soon notched up a half-century partnership. However, Plessis fell to Noor Ahmed and RCB suffered a mini-collapse with Glenn Maxwell and Mahipal Lomror departing in quick succession. Michael Bracewell (26 off 16), meanwhile, showed some grit and added 47 runs for the fourth wicket with Kohli.

After Bracewel fell, Kohli who was playing second fiddle earlier, took the matter into his own hands and played some glorious shots. The RCB stalwart scored boundaries for fun against Mohit Sharma and smartly played against Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed. Kohli found great support from Anuj Rawat (23* off 15). 

Eventually, the 34-year-old completed his second consecutive century in IPL 2023 as he nudged one from Sharma towards long-on for a single. With Kohli standing tall in a must-win game for RCB and also scoring his 7th IPL ton, fans went berserk on Twitter. Everyone hauled Kohli for his stupendous knock.
