Ahead of the first match of their West Indies tour, players of the Indian team including captain Rohit Sharma and batting stalwart Virat Kohli had the privilege of meeting West Indian legend Sir Garfield Sobers during their first practice session at Kensington Oval. The BCCI shared a video where the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Shardul Thakur, and Shubman Gill were seen greeting the former West Indies cricketer who was accompanied by his partner.

Sir Garfield Sobers has played 93 Tests amassing 8,032 runs at an average of 57.78 and 383 First Class matches where he scored a mountain of 28,314 runs.

Head Coach Rahul Dravid was seen accompanying the players and individually introducing them to him. He introduced Shubman Gill as “One of our young, most exciting batsmen.” He also encouraged the likes of Shardul Thakur to come and greet Sir Garfield.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and batter Virat Kohli were also seen conversing with Garry Sobers. Former West Indian cricketer Brian Lara took to his Instagram to appreciate the moment. He uploaded a story on his Instagram account with the text, “#Respect.”

India’s tour of West Indies is set to kick off with a two-match Test series starting on 12th July. India are coming off of a WTC heartbreak while the West Indies are reeling from the disappointment of not being able to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
