Michael Vaughan believes India would have won the first Test if Virat Kohli was captain
India lost the first Test against England on the 28th of January despite having a lead of 190 runs. Rohit Sharma, the Test captain, was criticized by fans for his captaincy, claiming he was defensive.
Michael Vaughan shared the same thought, claiming India would’ve won the series if he was captain instead. He claimed Kohli wouldn’t have switched off, like how Rohit did during England’s 2nd innings. Earlier he wrote in a column for The Telegram that Sharma’s captaincy was average, with no answers to Ollie Pope’s sweeps.
They miss Virat Kohli's captaincy massively in Test cricket. Virat's captain this week, India wouldn't have lost that game. Rohit is a legend and a great player. But I thought he just switched off completely.Michael Vaughan on Club Prairie Fire
Kohli was appointed as the Test captain in 2015, after MS Dhoni retired from the format. He captained for 7 years, winning 40 matches out of 68. He was the first Asian captain to beat Australia in Australia, and kept India in the top of the ICC rankings for 42 months.
