Indian batsman, Virat Kohli, was asked who his favourite current cricketer was in a video by Star Sports. Everyone knew some of his favourite retired players were Sachin Tendulkar, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni and Hershelle Gibbs. But when asked about the current favourite, he mentioned a non-Indian player.
Kohli said his favourite cricketer is English Test captain, Ben Stokes. He was also asked about who his cricketing idol was. Kohli replied that his cricketing idol while growing up was Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli was asked about the story of his jersey number, 18. Kohli said there was no story. He had received the number when he was in the U-19 Indian team and stuck with it. He was also asked about his favourite shot, to which he replied it was the inside out over covers against a left arm spinner.
Public’s opinion to Ben Stokes’ return to ODIs
Ben Stokes had announced that he was available for ODI selection despite retiring from the format in 2022. He played his last ODI against South Africa in July 2022. Since then he has only played Test Cricket and T20I cricket for England.
After he retracted his retirement, the entire cricketing world had divided opinions on the decision. Many people called him selfish while the remaining were happy that the all-rounder had returned to the format. Ex-Australian captain, Tim Paine, called him selfish and was unimpressed by his return.
Due to Stokes’s return, rising England star Harry Brook has been dropped from the Provisional World Cup Squad. Stokes will play his first ODI in over 13 months against New Zealand in a 4 match ODI series, which begins on 9th September.
Stokes was man of the match in the 2019 ODI World Cup, after scoring 84 runs to ensure England got scores level. In the super over, he scored 8 runs and ensured England were World Champions
