On 22nd March, Virat Kohli made his comeback to cricket after two months. He last played on January 17th against Afghanistan. Since then he was on personal leave, missing the Test series with England.
Finally returning to cricket, Virat Kohli featured in the 2024 IPL opener, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced Chennai Super Kings. Batting first, RCB struggled as they managed only 173 on the board. Out of those 173, Kohli scored 21 but was dismissed thanks to a brilliant fielding effort by Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra.
As RCB waited to get on the field for the 2nd innings, the stadium DJ started playing the popular song “Appadi Podu” from the movie Ghilli. The song, sung by KK and Anuradha Sriram, was the rage in 2004 and its hype still remains the same. As it blasted through the stadium speakers, Kohli danced along as the crowd cheered on.
Virat Kohi give aggressive send off to IPL debutant
On 22nd March, Rachin Ravindra made his IPL debut. Purchased for only ₹1.8 crore, it now looks like a steal as the debutant lit up Chepauk on his debut. Chasing 174, the southpaw scored 37 off 15, with three sixes and three boundaries.
His innings came to an end after sweeping the ball straight into the hands of Rajat Patidar. As he left the pitch, an aggravated Virat Kohli gave the 24-year-old a send off, shouting out “f*ck off”.
CSK won the 2024 IPL opener, chasing down 174 with eight balls to spare. The RCB pacers leaked runs, as the pace quartet of Mohammed Siraj, Alzarri Joseph, Cameron Green and Yash Dayal gave over 9 runs per over.
The next IPL match will be played on 23rd March, between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. It will be played in the brand new Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mohali, and it will start at 3:30 pm.
