Former India captain Virat Kohli played his 500th international match when he walked into bat during the second Test match between India and West Indies at Port of Spain in Trinidad on Thursday (July 20). He became the fourth Indian and 10th overall cricketer to reach the 500-match milestone and ended up slamming his century, also his 29th in Test. He became the first player to score a century in his 500th international match.

Kohli scored 121 off 206 balls before Alzarri Joseph ran him on Day 2 of the Test. He powered India to a 438-run total in the first innings. After the match, Kohli said how he doesn’t pay heed to his stats and milestone but is happy to help the team.

These stats and milestones, if I do them in a situation where the team needs me, for me that’s more special than just ticking the numbers. Honestly, it is going to mean nothing in 15-20 years,” Kohli said after the match.

Before this century, Kohli last reached the 100-run mark back in December 2018 in an overseas Test match. This ton against West Indies was also his 15th Test century outside India.
