For a long time, the yo-yo test determines players’ fitness and it has become a major criterion for selection as well. Virat Kohli, who is deemed as the fittest Indian player, is now behind rising star Shubman Gill when it comes to the yo-yo test score.

The 17-member Indian Team for the 2023 Asia Cup is in Alur, Karnataka right now. Some of them have undergone the yo-yo test.

Kohli recently shared his yo-yo test result of 17.2 on his Instagram Story. But his showing his score did not well with the top members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The players were verbally instructed not to tell their test results publicly.

A BCCI official told PTI that so far, Shubman Gill has the highest test score. “The yo-yo test being an aerobic endurance fitness test, the result could vary from when you last played and how much of workload you have gone through in the past week. Gill as of now has the highest score of 18.7. Most of the players have scored between 16.5 and 18,” said the BCCI source privy to the developments on conditions of anonymity.

Recently, Tom Moody, on Star Sports, drew parallels between Babar and Kohli and said that the Pakistani skipper reminds him of Kohli. Moody said that like Kohli, Babar also understands and reads the game well and is a good chaser as well.
