The most-awaited schedule for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 has been released on Tuesday (June 27). Two-time champions India will kick start their campaign against the five-time champions Australia on October 8. The showpiece event will start on October 5 with a rematch of the 2019 ODI World Cup final between England and New Zealand.

Former India captain Virat Kohli, who won the ODI World Cup in 2011 is excited to play at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It’s the same venue where India won the prestigious cup after 28 years by beating Sri Lanka in the final by six wickets.

India will be playing their matches across nine venues- Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Dharamshala, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi, and Chennai. “Personally, I’m looking forward to playing in Mumbai. It’d be great to experience that atmosphere,” Kohli told ICC.

Kohli admitted that he now understands what it meant for the seniors back then to win the coveted cup. In that final, Kohli scored 35 runs and also forged a crucial stand with Gautam Gambhir while chasing 275 runs.

Rohit Sharma is looking forward to the 2023 ODI World Cup

On the other hand, India captain Rohit Sharma is expecting a highly competitive match in the World Cup because the game has become faster. “All this augurs well for fans, worldwide, promising them many thrilling moments. We look forward to preparing well and being at our best this October-November,” Rohit said.

For the first time, India will be the sole host for the ODI World Cup. Previously, they co-hosted with the likes of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka in 1987, 1996, and 2011. The highly anticipated match between two neighbors India and Pakistan will be held on October 15 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
