On 6th April, Virat Kohli became the first centurion of the 2024 IPL. He scored his ton at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur against Rajasthan Royals. He took 67 deliveries to bring up his 8th IPL century.

Being sent in to bat first, Virat Kohli scored a slow 32 off 25 in the powerplay. By the 10th over, Royal Challengers Bengaluru reached 88 runs without losing a single wicket.

Kohli brought up his 50 in the 11th over, taking 39 balls to reach his 3rd fifty of the season. Just a few overs later, Faf du Plessis lost his wicket and Kohli started attacking a bit more. In the next 33 deliveries he scored 63 runs, bringing RCB to 183 runs

This innings was another example of how Kohli had carried the entire batting order alone. While Kohli made 113 runs, the remaining four RCB players managed only 59. Glenn Maxwell’s poor form also continued as he got out for 1 run, bringing his season tally to 32 runs in five innings.

Virat Kohli’s innings keeps fans quiet

In the past few days, Virat Kohli was attacked for his innings. Although he was scoring runs, many claimed he took his time and played selfishly in the past few innings. Some defended him, saying he needed to play like that as the team struggled.

The same occurred for this innings as well, with many bashing him. They took a jibe at the 35-year-old for scoring the slowest century by an Indian in the history of the IPL.

Chasing 184, RR didn’t start well as Reece Topley got the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal on the 2nd ball of the innings. Luckily Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson recovered the innings, with the two stitching up a fifty partnership. RR then won the match by six wickets.
