Virat Kohli unfollows Sourav Ganguly on Instagram after awkward handshake moment

Former India captain Virat Kohli has unfollowed former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly on Instagram. This comes after the pair was involved in an awkward “handshake” moment after the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday. Notably, Kohli and Ganguly did not shake hands as a part of the post-match tradition.

Also, Kohli was seen giving the DC Director of Cricket a stare when he was fielding at the boundary ropes. Now, the RCB batter has unfollowed Ganguly on Instagram.

It is worth mentioning that these two have been involved in some unwanted controversy in the past. It’s said that Sourav Ganguly pushed for Virat Kohli’s sacking as the captain of Team India. Also, the two have given contradictory statements on Kohli’s T20I and ODI captaincy saga.

Where did things go wrong?

Things have not been the same between Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly from the beginning. In Kohli’s early days as captain, he was often compared to Ganguly and the latter himself praised Kohli for his aggression. Ganguly had also gone on to call Kohli a more skillful player than him.

“I don’t think that (captaincy) should be the comparison… The comparison should be in terms of skill as a player. I think he is more skilful than I’m,” Ganguly had said of Kohli in the ‘Ranveer Show’ on YouTube.

“We played in different generations, and we played a lot of cricket. I played in my generation, and he will continue playing, probably playing more games than I did. Currently, I have played more than what he has but he’ll get past that. He is tremendous,” the former India captain had added.

However, after Ganguly took over BCCI’s Presidency, there were rumours of ideological clashes and Kohli not winning an ICC title also worked against him. Eventually, the Delhi cricketer was sidelined to make way for Rohit Sharma as the all-format captain in 2022.
