The way Virat Kohli batted yesterday, it looked like he will soon end his century drought in Test after over three years. He completed his half-century and only needed to play carefully to score his 75th century, which he did to the delight of many fans, on Sunday (March 12) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
His last century in red-ball cricket came in 2019 against Bangladesh where he played a 136-run knock at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. His present ton is his 28th one in red-ball cricket. The moment he reached the three-figure mark, everyone started celebrating. Kohli, after a single off Nathan Lyon, acknowledged the crowd and dressing room, kissed his locket, and looked up to the sky.
“A 600-kilo gorilla is off his back. He will grow a couple of inches taller by this evening,” former India head coach Ravi Shastri screamed on commentary. The Australian players were also clapping after Kohli’s ton.

Though fans are claiming that he got his form back, he did get it back last year during the Asia Cup where he ended his lean patch to slam his maiden T20I century. But a huge innings in red-ball cricket was expected from him, which he slammed against Australia, the same team against whom he has played a few memorable knocks. But he had forgetful outings in the first three Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, for which fans slammed him for his failure on the turners but a century on the flat Ahmedabad track.
This pitch is highly suitable for scoring runs and almost everyone is contributing something. The bowlers are helpless on this pitch. And now that Kohli finally slammed his ton, he can shift his gears now and score runs quickly.
India have leveled the score so far and are expected to add a lot of runs. Kohli is currently batting at 143* with all-rounder Axar Patel at 42*. Yesterday, Shubman Gill hogged the limelight for his second Test hundred and first one on home soil. Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, and KS Bharat added 35, 42, and 44 respectively.
