Former India opener Virender Sehwag revealed a bizarre tale related to MS Dhoni while recalling the fond memories of the 2011 ODI World Cup. As per Sehwag, Dhoni was highly superstitious and ate only one thing throughout India’s campaign, thinking it will help India win matches at the prestigious tournament.
MS Dhoni had a terrible time with the bat prior to the 2011 World Cup as all he could score were just 150 runs off eight matches. That’s the reason, he ate only ‘khichdi’ throughout the tournament for the aforementioned reason. Khichdi is a dish made up of rice and lentils.
“Everyone was having some or the other superstition, and everyone was following theirs. MS Dhoni had a superstition of having ‘khichdi’ all through the World Cup,” Sehwag said during an interaction with Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan on Star Sports. “He used to say that even if I’m not scoring runs but this superstition is working, and we’re winning matches.”

MS Dhoni scored an unbeaten 91 in the final
Though he was not scoring runs in the earlier matches at the 2011 World Cup, in the final he delivered. He promoted himself ahead of Yuvraj Singh who was in red-hot form and scored a brilliant unbeaten 91, not to forget that iconic six to finish the match in style.
On the other hand, Virender Sehwag had a remarkable stint at the 2011 showpiece event as he scored 380, including a hundred. In the final, however, he fell for a duck. At the summit clash, India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets while chasing 275 and lifted the elusive cup after 28 years.
Meanwhile, the schedule for the 2023 ODI World Cup has been released. India will play their first match against Australia on October 8, while their clash against arch-rivals Pakistan will be on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
