Former India opener Virender Sehwag is extremely disappointed over the ugly fight between the two icons of the country- Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. Sehwag urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to go for stricter punishment to ensure that temper flare-ups do not always end up in a nasty brawl.

Sehwag first said that he had no idea what happened after the match as he had switched off the TV but saw the visuals the next day on social media. “I always said that these guys are icons of the country. If they do or say anything, millions of kids follow them and probably think ‘If my icon has done this, I would too’,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Sehwag suggested a ban on anyone if they indulge in such fights to avoid it in the future. He then said that his own kids can lip-read abusive words which worries him the most.

My own kids can lip-read and they very well understand Ben Stokes. So that is when I feel bad. If you’re saying such things, if my kids can read it, others can too, and tomorrow they will think if they (Kohli and Gambhir) can say it, so can I,” Sehwag added.

As per several viral videos, the issue might have started during the 17th over of Lucknow Super Giants‘ (LSG) innings. Kohli was involved in a heated war of words with LSG pacer Naveen ul Haq. They continued the same after Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) victory, during the handshakes.

Kohli then was talking to LSG batter Kyle Mayers after which LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir interfered and took him away. They started going away but turned back and charged toward each other and got embroiled in an ugly altercation. After the match, both were fined 100 percent of their match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.
