Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag who was a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team spoke about India’s chances at this year’s World Cup on the sidelines of the 2023 ODI World Cup schedule launch. Sehwag also imposed faith in India’s batting stalwart and superstar Virat Kohli to win the trophy for his team.
The former India opener said that he has full faith in Kohli’s abilities. Sehwag also said that Kohli’s teammates should win the cup for the 34-year-old while citing the 2011 squad example and how they all wanted to win the World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar.
“We played that World Cup for Tendulkar. If we won the World Cup, it would have been a great exit for Sachin paaji. Virat Kohli is the same now. Everybody will look to win the World Cup for him. He always gives more than 100 percent,” said Sehwag to ICC.
“I think Virat Kohli is also looking to this World Cup. 100,000 people will watch you at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat knows how the pitches will behave. I am sure he will score a lot of runs and he will do his best to win the World Cup for India.”

Who holds the edge in India vs Pakistan according to Virender Sehwag?
Virender Sehwag who played a big role in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph also shed light on the most-awaited India vs Pakistan game at the 2023 ODI World Cup. The 44-year-old chose the favorite to win the high-stake encounter. Sehwag feels India have an edge over the arch-rivals because they soak the pressure better.
“I feel that now India handles the pressure that is why they win whereas Pakistan have a burden that they haven’t won against India. In the 1990s, they were good at dealing with pressure but after 2000, India soak it better,” opined Sehwag.
The veteran opener also chose both India and Pakistan among the four semifinalists. “If I have to pick four teams – Australia, England, India and Pakistan. These are the semi-finalists.”
