Former Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Virender Sehwag did not show any mercy while criticizing DC’s head coach Ricky Ponting for the team’s terrible start at the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The David Warner-led side have lost five matches in a row despite having the sharpest brains in world cricket (Ponting and Sourav Ganguly), and are languishing at the bottom of the points table.
Yesterday, they locked horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and failed to chase a 175-run target. After the loss, Sehwag opined that Ponting who “took all those credits” after Delhi’s impressive performances in other seasons, should take the blame for the team’s poor performance this season as well.
“Ponting has done a brilliant job, took them to the finals, and they reach the playoffs almost every year now. He took all those credits, now he has to take this credit as well,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz after Delhi’s defeat.
“There are zero roles of a coach in an IPL team. The big responsibility is man-management and giving the players that confidence, but in the end, a coach looks good only when the team performs well which Delhi haven’t done it at all,” Sehwag added. He then stated that he thinks Delhi have reached a point where they are confused about their next steps to make a comeback.

Ravi Shastri takes a cheeky jibe at Sourav Ganguly during Delhi Capitals’ match vs RCB
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri is critical of Delhi’s campaign so far. He pointed out how it’s very difficult for a team to come back after such a disastrous start.
Shastri stated that Ricky Ponting and David Warner are not used to losing. Then he further took a dig at Sourav Ganguly, the Director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals, who also served as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC). Shastri said: “Sourav Ganguly, the former president of the board. He must have thought it’s nice upstairs.”
DC lost their first match against Lucknow Super Giants by 50 runs, then lost against Gujarat Titans by six wickets, followed by getting hammered by Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs, before giving Mumbai their first two points by losing the match by six wickets. And in their fifth match, they lost to the RCB by 23 runs.
