Dhruv Jurel stood tall on his 2nd Test as his 90 ensured India scored above 300 runs. With the middle-order collapsing, the 23-year-old built an impressive 76-run partnership with Kuldeep Yadav and then ensured the tailender did not face any bowlers. He was finally bowled by Tom Hartley, missing his ton by 10 runs. 

Former Indian captain, Virender Sehwag, congratulated the youngster on X, praising him for his innings. He added how the keeper showed his skills and commented how he did it without any “media hype and drama,” making many people think it was a dig at Sarfaraz KhanKhan’s debut was heavily covered and hyped by the media and fans.

Sehwag later put up a tweet, stating that he didn’t mean to demean any player. He said he wanted to hype all debutants in the series, like Jurel, Khan and Akash Deep for their incredible performances. He claimed many players didn’t get the hype they deserved as well. 

Fans divided over controversial tweet 

When Virender Sehwag put up his tweet, many fans had differing opinions on it. They realized that the former Indian opener took a dig at the way Sarfaraz Khan was shown in the media, and many called him out for it. But some fans did not like the tweet, calling it “pathetic” and calling him cheap. Some praised him for calling out the bias towards Sarfaraz Khan.

Coming in to bat when India were 161/5, Jurel’s 90 powered India to 307. He later impressed with the gloves, able to keep up against Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. He took a brilliant one-handed catch to dismiss James Anderson as India bowled them out of only 145. At the end of the third day, India need 152 more runs to win, with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the middle.
