The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the schedule for the impending 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, just 100 days before the start of the tournament. The delay in announcing the schedule was due to the ongoing hassle between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

PCB is relying on the government’s decision whether it will participate in the World Cup, and whether Babar Azam and Co. will play their matches in Ahmedabad. PCB also accused India of intentionally allocating venues where its team will face challenges.

Amidst the chaos, former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram reacted and took an indirect jibe at PCB for all this drama. Akram opined that Babar Azam and the team will not be having a problem playing anywhere as they don’t pay heed to the “unnecessary stress“. Akram also suggested the board stick to one claim instead of going back and forth because, at the end of the day, they will play only a game despite the political tension between the two nations. Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker in Tests said that if the board fails to corroborate what it previously suggested, then it leads to mockery.

I’m all for ego. If you have an understanding of the situation then speak on the matter, by all means, but also learn to move on. So, always plan, and think about whether we can do it. If you can’t do it, then don’t do it. It leads to mockery. It’s only a game. Let the government discuss it, that’s their problem,” Akram told paktv.tv.

The much-hyped and much-awaited match of the ODI World Cup 2023 will be played on October 15 when the arch-rivals India and Pakistan will lock horns at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. But before that clash, Babar Azam and Co. will be playing two matches, against the winners of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2.

It will be interesting to see whether Pakistan can register their first win against India at the ODI World Cup. In their previous seven meetings, Pakistan lost all of their matches (in 1992 1996, 1999, 2003, 2001, 2015, and 2019).
